FANGIRL online: Front row at Rose Blood Festival

Neck of the Woods in San Francisco hosted Rose Blood Fest for its second edition and the festival proved it deserves its space in the thriving music scene of the Bay Area. The fest spanned 2 nights and gave the mostly femme and LGBTQIA+ crowd a safe space to celebrate and support each other. Songs were dedicated to Dolly Parton (RIP!) all the way to Sirens.
San Francisco has been losing music venues left and right to evil landlords and corporations, but Neck of the Woods was the perfect environment to host this empowering festival. The Gen Z crowd seamlessly went up and down the stairs through the night to make sure to catch every diverse act that was on the bill for the night.
Misandrist kicked off the night and set the tone for what would be a fun and electric vibe, quickly followed by Swell Foop.
The non-binary trio, who were joined by a fourth member for this show, were my biggest surprise of the night & I quickly fell in love with them. Halfway through the set they switched things up, and the bassist took over vocal duties and screamed their heart out. I saw multiple people walking around holding their EP record "Don't Spare Me" so it's safe to say I was not the only one that loved them! Their follow-up record "Spilled" is coming out 9/24; check them out!
The sound of Violet Thrones was right up my alley, invoking classic goth sounds à la Christian Death with ethereal vocals. They also have an album coming out soon, so make sure you catch them at Substance Fest.
Broken kitten heels didn't stop Tricky FM from giving the most energetic performance of the night. The drums kept everyone busy on the dance floor until the singer took over right in the middle of the crowd, asking everyone to make her c*m, citing that she builds her set with a long lead-up that ends in a big climax (figuratively, of course...!)
Spellling ended the night solo, with hypnotizing dancing and the voice of a goddess looped over spooky beats with some influence by West Coast hip hop. She also debuted a couple new songs that her fans in the first row were thrilled to hear for the first time. The night ended on her cover of a My Bloody Valentine song.
